How to Set Realistic Resolutions for 2021 with @pandorapaloma_
Once the New Year is in sight, we tend to try and make resolution from stopping something to starting something and that in itself can feel daunting. This year has had its fair share of challenges so it’s important to not give ourselves more as we move into 2021. Often with resolutions we have big dreams but by breaking some of those down into bite-size pieces, we can work towards them vs. feeling like we’ve failed at the first hurdle. The most important thing to remember is that you can set resolutions any time of the year, not just in December so don’t put pressure on yourself. With these 3 helpful tips from life coach Pandora Paloma, you can turn your resolutions into manageable to-dos.
Tip 1 - Base them on your values
Resolutions become realistic when you set them based on your values. Using what is important to you and how you can bring that into your world every day and not just for new year. For example, if adventure is important to you but you’ve not been able to travel in 2020, what ways you can bring more adventure into your world now such as themed dining. If community is important to you, a resolution might be to look into community projects. If family is important, create a monthly event (digital or in real life) that the whole family can get involved with.
Tip 2 - Intentions vs Goals
When setting resolutions, think about how you want to feel instead of just the end goal. Intentions are more about how you want to feel on the journey. For example, if your goal is to finally reach the 10k run but on the day, you are near to finishing and the weather turns meaning you have to head home to dry off. You haven’t reached the goal but your intention to really enjoy the process was achieved despite not reaching the goal and that’s something you should be proud of.
Tip 3 - Positive Resolutions
Creating resolutions that are easy and that will impact you in a positive way are much easier to meet and are more sustainable long-term. For example, a resolution to do ‘meat free Monday’ with the family is a) realistic, b) pretty easy to stick to and c) you might just feel good for it. The same applies for drinking more water or going to bed an hour earlier because when you have a natural liking to your resolutions, or you choose resolutions that you see the benefit of doing (and actually feel better for), you are more likely to stick to them.
